Alex Marrero Miami Swim Week Fashion

Lan of Fashion Runway Showcase will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Hilton Bentley Miami/South Beach.  The Runway Showcase features rising designers and models in the Miami fashion scene.  Alex Marrero, Miami Fashion Photographer, is happy to share that Lan of Fashion is currently giving out Photography Media Passes.  In order to photograph the event, you will be required to maintain a Media Pass.  This is a particularly rewarding experience and valuable opportunity for up and coming fashion photographers, explains Marrero.  As a lower tier Miami Fashion Week 2024 event, this opportunity could help open many doors for artists in the process of building their portfolios.  This valuable opportunity will be full of networking and collaboration; making a Media Pass all the more worthwhile.  General Admission to the event is free, but you must maintain a Media Pass in order to take advantage of the event from a photoshoot angle.  Do not miss out on this rewarding learning experience for newcomers to the Miami fashion industry and photography community of the Southeast.

Stay tuned for more Fashion Week event features from the Magic City Artist himself: Alex Marrero Miami!

Model Casting

How can I be cast as a model for Miami Swim Week 2024?

Fashion Photographer Alex Marrero Miami explains that model castings for Miami Swim Week traditionally happen only a couple of weeks before the shows launch.  Announcements are posted casually on the social media profiles of Miami Swim Week producers, fashion photographers and organizers of the shows.  With this elusive exclusivity in mind, Alex Marrero knows firsthand just how coveted and cherished these model castings are.  The chance to walk the Swim Week stage is sure to be an honor for many models!

How much does it cost to model for Miami Swim Week 2024?

It doesn’t cost anything to walk during fashion week shows.  These unpaid opportunities are intended to offer a model experience and exposure.  But it does not and should not cost a model anything to ‘apply’ to walk at Miami Swim Week 2024.  Fashion Photographer Alex Marrero strongly encourages models to be wary of so-called fashion week producers who claim to offer you the chance to build your photography portfolio or modeling portfolio by paying.

Alex Marrero Miami Train Museum Field Photography Workshop

A fleet of majestic steam and diesel locomotives will act as your subjects in this unique field photography workshop.  On January 6th 2024, artists are invited to join Rafael of The Art of Photography International (TAOP Miami Chapter) at Gold Coast Railroad Museum (GCRM) to capture industrial images of historic transportation pieces.  With the museum’s railroad surroundings as your backdrop, creatives and artists will have the chance to learn new strategies in manipulating light in their images.  Participants at the workshop will also learn lessons on how to adapt their camera kit and toolbox of composition techniques to meet available light and field conditions (both positive and negative).  Alex Marrero looks forward to expanding his portfolio with images of these historic passenger and freight railcars.  The opportunity to receive technical feedback out on the field is a unique experience of its own.  This field photography outing workshop has a $10 entry fee.

The Gold Coast Railroad Museum (GCRM) Field Photography Workshop will be taught by The Art of Photography International (IAOP Miami Chapter) workshop leader and instructor Rafael.  A seasoned photographer and instructor in the art, he has taught numerous classes through the “My Community” School program.  Fellow Miami based photographer Alex Marrero is inspired by Rafael’s field photography outing workshops.  These practical learning events are invaluable for artists and budding creatives looking to learn new techniques.  The upcoming January 2024 field photography workshop event also offers the opportunity to expand your portfolio with quality compositions.  Marrero looks forward to adding new light techniques to his technical toolbox and expanding his portfolio with images of some of America’s most poignant locomotives.

Time Travel to Miami in the 1970s at the Remaking Miami Photography Exhibit

Alex Marrero, Miami photographer and culture enthusiast is taking a trip through time at Remaking Miami: a photography exhibition featuring a collection of photographer, editor and philanthropist Josefinana Tarafa’s artwork.

Alex Marrero Miami Art Exhibit

Remaking Miami by Josefina Tarafa is a collection of thirty posthumous prints sourced from the photographer, editor and philanthropist’s archive of photographs.  The exhibition features stunning snapshots of Miami during the 1970s.  Tarafa’s photos depict everything from city hustle and bustle to easy living and everyday life in the Magic City of the ‘70s.  A poignant time in Miami’s cultural history, this era encapsulates the exceptional transformation of the Magic City during this time.  As someone who lived in the area at this time, Alex Marrero can’t help but to feel a sense of nostalgia at this exhibition.

Josefina Tarafa was a photographer, editor and philanthropist who worked as a documentarian.  When she arrived in Miami, Florida, Tarafa found a sense of identity in her new home by photographing the architecture, people and culture of the Magic City.  Her artistic vision inspired Alex Marrero, fellow local creative.  As someone who shares a similar background story to Tarafa, he feels an inherent sense of connection to her, both as an artist and as a Miamian.

Josefina Tarafa’s Remaking Miami will be available for viewing from 10 AM to 3 PM, from now until December 13, 2023.  The photography collection is on display at the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC’s Eduardo J. Padron Campus, Monday through Wednesday and the second Saturday of each month.

Alex Marrero Miami Street Style Photography

Learn how to capture motion and the essence of movement in this one-of-a-kind photography workshop.  Capturing Motion is a street-style photography workshop in Miami that is set to take place on Sunday, November 26, 2023.  With the guidance and vision of local photographers and creatives, budding new artists will have the opportunity to capture stellar snapshots of breakdancers and models in motion.  It isn’t every day Alex Marrero has the chance to capture motion.  Add the unique element of street-style aesthetics into the mix, and this certainly seems like a unique opportunity to Marrero!  At Capturing Motion (presented by Save The Creatives Foundation), participants will be able to capture the life and light of models and dancers with their lenses.  This session is interactive; meaning, you will have the chance to take photos and receive real-time feedback from professionals in the business.

Alex Marrero, Miami based photographer, encourages new artists to embrace out of the box workshops, like Capturing Motion: Street Style Photography.  Even if you envision your creative talents leaning in one direction (such as event photography, wedding and engagement photoshoots, family portraits, pet portraits, etc.), it is always a good idea to try out new styles.  At Capturing Motion, Marrero looks forward to improving his techniques in capturing sharp images of subjects in motion in outdoor environments.
