Street Photography at the Beach in Miami

Miami Street Photography Festival is a premier event that takes place every December. Fashion Photographer and Miami Local Alex Marrero eagerly anticipates MSPF 2024. But while he’s waiting, Marrero will be enjoying photography workshops hosted by MSPF, including this Street Photography Workshop on the Miami – Hollywood Beach Boardwalk!

Alex Marrero Miami Beach

Join Miami Street Photography Festival Founder and Executive Director Juan Jose Reyes for an unforgettable photography workshop experience.  The workshop will take place May 9-12, 2024 at South Beach and Hollywood Beach in Miami, FL.  Alex Marrero Miami, a fellow street photographer and Magic City culture enthusiast, is ecstatic to attend this event.  Reyes will be introducing artists to his Five Levels and Three Styles of Street Photography; a signature approach and toolkit utilized by the Miami Street Photography Festival Founder and Executive Director.  More than just an informative and educational experience, this photography workshop will also provide real-time feedback, from the man himself: Juan Jose Reyes!  That’s right: Reyes will be reviewing photos that could be selected as finalists for his MSPF Finalist board.  And as someone who oversees the official panel as the Key Judge, Reyes certainly has an eye for a good snapshot!

Photographer Alex Marrero Miami looks forward to making the most out of this contemporary event.  Where better than Hollywood Beach and Miami’s South Beach for people watching, boardwalk pictures and everything in between??  Featuring a vast array of vibrant colors, activities and experiences, this photography workshop will be one of a kind — especially for artists interested in capturing street style.

Alex Marrero Miami photographer zooms in on a field photography workshop at Gold Coast Railroad Museum (GCRM). Meet with members of The Art of Photography International at this one-of-a-kind workshop event on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11 AM.

Alex Marrero Miami Train Museum Field Photography Workshop

A fleet of majestic steam and diesel locomotives will act as your subjects in this unique field photography workshop.  On January 6th 2024, artists are invited to join Rafael of The Art of Photography International (TAOP Miami Chapter) at Gold Coast Railroad Museum (GCRM) to capture industrial images of historic transportation pieces.  With the museum’s railroad surroundings as your backdrop, creatives and artists will have the chance to learn new strategies in manipulating light in their images.  Participants at the workshop will also learn lessons on how to adapt their camera kit and toolbox of composition techniques to meet available light and field conditions (both positive and negative).  Alex Marrero looks forward to expanding his portfolio with images of these historic passenger and freight railcars.  The opportunity to receive technical feedback out on the field is a unique experience of its own.  This field photography outing workshop has a $10 entry fee.

The Gold Coast Railroad Museum (GCRM) Field Photography Workshop will be taught by The Art of Photography International (IAOP Miami Chapter) workshop leader and instructor Rafael.  A seasoned photographer and instructor in the art, he has taught numerous classes through the “My Community” School program.  Fellow Miami based photographer Alex Marrero is inspired by Rafael’s field photography outing workshops.  These practical learning events are invaluable for artists and budding creatives looking to learn new techniques.  The upcoming January 2024 field photography workshop event also offers the opportunity to expand your portfolio with quality compositions.  Marrero looks forward to adding new light techniques to his technical toolbox and expanding his portfolio with images of some of America’s most poignant locomotives.

Time Travel to Miami in the 1970s at the Remaking Miami Photography Exhibit

Alex Marrero, Miami photographer and culture enthusiast is taking a trip through time at Remaking Miami: a photography exhibition featuring a collection of photographer, editor and philanthropist Josefinana Tarafa’s artwork.

Alex Marrero Miami Art Exhibit

Remaking Miami by Josefina Tarafa is a collection of thirty posthumous prints sourced from the photographer, editor and philanthropist’s archive of photographs.  The exhibition features stunning snapshots of Miami during the 1970s.  Tarafa’s photos depict everything from city hustle and bustle to easy living and everyday life in the Magic City of the ‘70s.  A poignant time in Miami’s cultural history, this era encapsulates the exceptional transformation of the Magic City during this time.  As someone who lived in the area at this time, Alex Marrero can’t help but to feel a sense of nostalgia at this exhibition.

Josefina Tarafa was a photographer, editor and philanthropist who worked as a documentarian.  When she arrived in Miami, Florida, Tarafa found a sense of identity in her new home by photographing the architecture, people and culture of the Magic City.  Her artistic vision inspired Alex Marrero, fellow local creative.  As someone who shares a similar background story to Tarafa, he feels an inherent sense of connection to her, both as an artist and as a Miamian.

Josefina Tarafa’s Remaking Miami will be available for viewing from 10 AM to 3 PM, from now until December 13, 2023.  The photography collection is on display at the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC’s Eduardo J. Padron Campus, Monday through Wednesday and the second Saturday of each month.

Miami Swim Week 2024

Miami Swim Week returns in Mid-July 2024. Although this might seem like many months away to some, Fashion Photographer and Miami Artist Alex Marrero knows all too well that this means now is the perfect time to prepare! The event is currently requesting applications from proposed vendors, fashion designers, photographers, models and much more.

Alex Marrero Miami Swim Week

Miami Swim Week 2024 will take place in Mid-July of next year.  But there’s still so much left to plan, explains local Miami Photographer and Small Business Supporter Alex Marrero.  The official schedule is set to be developed in June 2024.  But for now, the event is requesting applications from aspiring models, photographers, fashion designers and anyone else interested in making their mark on Miami Swim Week next year.  Industry, press and influencers are also expected to register with the various producers involved with the event.  Model casting will take place a couple of weeks before the shows kick off (i.e. in early July 2024).  Models and designers are urged to not pay producers to walk or submit their designs.  Unfortunately, many producers attempt to take advantage of inexperienced models and designers by expecting them to pay for their time.  On the contrary, Miami Swim Week can be a valuable learning opportunity and portfolio building experience, explains Alex Marrero, Miami artist.  YOu just have to make the proper connections! Now is the time to ensure that you are in good hands ahead of the event.  There is still time left — but act quickly!
